A school cleaner's primary responsibility is to maintain a clean and hygienic environment for students and staff. Duties may include:
- Cleaning: Vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and dusting in classrooms, offices, locker rooms, restrooms, and gymnasium
- Spot cleaning: Addressing spills and other unexpected cleaning needs
- Sanitizing: Cleaning bathrooms and other public areas
- Maintaining supplies: Checking stock levels and replenishing toiletries
- Reporting issues: Notifying the supervisor or caretaker of any hazards or defects
- Working with others: Collaborating with teachers and other staff to address maintenance issues
- Following procedures: Adhering to the school's cleaning schedule and safety requirements
- Training: Participating in training sessions as needed
- Promoting safety: Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
